Parents – Welcome to Lake Highlands Wildcat Band!

Hello Band Family,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Lake Highlands High School Wildcat Band! Parents/Guardians, if you have a student in band or color guard (they are collectively referred to as “The Band”), you are automatically part of the Lake Highlands Area Band Club.  There are no membership dues and no official sign-up required.  We are so happy to have you as a part of our band family. What we ask of you is to be supportive of the students and directors, cheer them on and when possible, help by volunteering. You can be involved as much or as little as you choose. We want and need your help though so please reach out to one of us if you are interested in getting plugged in.

Although the pandemic has presented challenges, the Directors, Students and LHABC Board have all been working hard to make the best of the situation.   Our activities may look very different from previous years, but our enthusiasm for supporting this band program continues to be as strong as ever. We want to thank you all for your patience and understanding as we traverse this season. Please know that every effort is being made to get information to you all as soon as it is as concrete as possible.

As volunteer opportunities arise, email notifications and sign-ups will be sent to the group. All volunteers are required to submit to a background check. Please complete yours today via https://risd.voly.org/ . It only takes a couple minutes!

Ticket Information for Home Varsity Football (we are not in charge of this so stay tuned for any changes that may come):

All ticket sales are general admission and must be purchased online. No tickets will be available at the gate.Tickets will be sold on a week to week basis in the following order:

• Monday/Tuesday

Family of athletes, band, cheer, drill team and bell guard may purchase tickets.

4 tickets will be available per participant listed above. A link will be sent out and the student’s ID # is required in order to purchase tickets.  Students should know their student ID # or parents may request it from their school office. 

• Wednesday

Students may purchase a ticket online. Student ID # required in order to purchase a ticket. The link will be sent out and posted on the RISD athletics webpage. https://web.risd.org/athletics/

• Thursday and or Friday

If tickets are still available, the link will be posted on the RISD athletics webpage and the general public may purchase up to two tickets. https://web.risd.org/athletics/

There will be no passes accepted during the 2020 season. 

All Fans Must follow the UIL COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Guidelines.

Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in removal from the event. 

Masks are required

All fans must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering.

Every other row will remain empty. Please do not sit on rows that are marked.

Per UIL rules, we must maintain no more than 50% Stadium Capacity.

Open board positions – are you interested in any of them?

Dear Band Families,

I hope you are all well and enjoying time with your family.

The Lake Highlands High School Area Band Club needs your help next year.  Please consider volunteering for one of the positions below.  Don’t worry if that is not in your wheel house, we need volunteers for games, meals, contests, throughout the year.  The more your family and your band student put into the band, the more you will get out.

We are still in need of three very important positions on the board for next year.  If you or you know someone that would be great at one of these positions, please let me know.   This is what our by-laws say about these positions. The following positions are still available:

President Elect-The President(s)-Elect shall: 1. Become familiar with the overall operation of the Band Club. 2. Assume the duties and exercise the powers of the President in the event of absence. 3. Assume the office of President(s) the following school year or sooner in the event of vacancy. 4. Have check signing authority. In the event that two people hold this position, only one person shall have check signing authority. 5. Have access to the Jr. High and High School Charms account for purpose of emailing band 6. Setup Remind for LHABC and maintain this throughout the year 7. Work with the LHHS counselor to coordinate the awarding of LHABC scholarships. 8. Serve on the Nominating Committee. 9. Serve on the Budget Committee. Serve on the Spring Trip Committee and, if available, attend the trip. 10. Perform such other duties as pertain to such office.

Meals– The Meals Committee provides meals during the marching season to the Band, Band Directors, and adults assisting the Band before games and competitions (including drum line and Jazz band).  The Meals Chair shall: 1. Recruit and organizes volunteers to help plan, purchase, set up, serve, and clean up from the meals. 2. Maintain an inventory of supplies in the chaperone room for the purpose of serving meals, such as disposable plates and utensils, antibacterial hand-cleaner, serving gloves, cleaning fluids, paper towels, etc. 3. Manage the expenses to the approved budget.

Ways and Means Chair– The Ways and Means Committee oversees the subcommittees to manage existing fundraisers, help with advertising and said events/fundraisers; fill in for any fundraisers without a sub-committee member to run event; manage budget/financials of Ways & Means, and finds new funding opportunities throughout the year. The Ways and Means chair shall: 1. Recruit and organize volunteers to help plan, advertise and implement fund raisers. 2. Serve on the Budget Committee. 3. Work with the subcommittee chairs for various fundraisers 4. Manage the expenses to the approved budget.

Mid-week report – great things happening at LHHS

What a great week so far!

We are getting SO much done in Band Camp so far!! Kids are working hard and we begin putting the show on the field TOMORROW!As teachers return to campus and events begin, please make sure you follow instructions regarding parking.

We have had many band students reported for parking in the circle lot. Please continue parking in the stadium lot and walking down Church Rd. The space between the H Building and our Parking lot is an active Construction Zone and should NOT be walked through!

Front Circle Drive parking spots are for visitors of the campus, those who are coming in to register and pick-up schedules for the next week.

After our morning rehearsal is complete, you may move your car to the Band lot.

Keep drinking water, eating a good breakfast and protecting yourself from the sun!

Spring Trip UPDATE

The deadline to register for the Spring Trip is Friday, August 23rd. At that time, the first TWO payments need to be made online. Ready for first day of Band Camp?

Hey Band Family! 

Wanted to remind you about a few important things for this weekend and the start of summer band. 

1.       Burger House Spirit Night tomorrow (Sun 7/28) between 5-9 PM! Come visit with band friends/directors, get to know new band families, and eat some tasty food while supporting LHHS Wildcat Band. Get out of the kitchen and then go home to get some good rest before summer band starts.  SPREAD THE WORD! Please be sure to invite all your friends, family and neighbors! The band makes a percentage of ALL sales between 5-9 PM! See you there (6248 E. Mockingbird Lane Dallas TX 75214)! You can bring your student’s physical form with you and turn it in to us at Burger House.

2.       Summer Band Camp begins Monday, July 29th at 8 AM. Which means they need to be there at 7:45 AM. The schedule this first week of summer band is 8 to 11:30 a.m. outdoors, lunch break, then 12:45 to 4:30 p.m. indoors. Students need to wear cool clothing and supportive tennis shoes with hats, sunglasses, cooling neck towels or headbands and plenty of sunscreen.  They will also need a BIG water bottle and lunch if they are staying on campus during lunch break!

3.       Per UIL rules, ALL band students are required to have a physical form turned in before coming to summer band on Monday 7/29.  There will be volunteers checking to see if you have a form on file or to take your student’s form on Monday morning.  Here are some places you can go to get your form done if you haven’t already (form attached).  Here are some options for places for you to get this done… your primary care physician, Care Now Urgent Care (9323 LBJ Frwy. Dallas, TX 75243), Care Now Urgent Care (2221 Abrams Rd. Dallas TX 75214), PrimaCare Medical Center (9901 Royal Ln. #106 Dallas TX 75231), or Watermark Urgent Care (9780 LBJ Frwy # 124 Dallas TX 75243).

Spring Trip & Mattress Palooza

In case you missed the meeting on Thursday, here is some important information about the Spring Trip & Mattress Palooza!

Spring Trip – April 20th – 23rd

Each Spring the LHHS Band will travel for a performance.   For three years of a student’s four years in high school, the band travels to Corpus Christi for the South Coast Music Festival.   Every fourth year, the band travels out of state to perform.  Past locations have included Hawaii and Disney World.

In order to attend as band member must:

  • Be a member of Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, or Winterguard.
  • Be an eligible member in good standing for Fall and Spring semesters (meaning: all fall band fees paid in full).
  • Have all trip fees must be paid in full.

Details:

  • Corpus Christi dates – April 20th to April 23rd
  • Will be staying at the Island House Condos
  • Cost is $375 per person (covers RT bus, 3 nts. lodging, & contest fees)
    • 1st payment of $125 is due 1/19
    • 2nd payment of $125 due 2/16 
    • 3rd payment of $125 due 3/23

Send your trip deposit in by Friday, 1/19 with the registration form to the band safe in an envelope marked with your student’s name and Corpus Trip written on the envelope.  You can also pay via Charms with a credit card. Be sure to mark in the notes that it is for the Spring Corpus trip.

  • Need lots of chaperones (adults) – consider joining us on a fun trip!

FYI – regular band fees (from when you registered in August), need to be paid in full before you start payments for the spring trip.

MATTRESS PALOOZA IS ON February 3rd and we need all of you to make it a success!

We need everyone to help us promote the event!  The success of this relies entirely on us getting the word out about it.  In 2017,  the event raised $9000 to support the Lake Highlands cluster bands – the highest amount raised by any RISD school.

Please do the following 3 things.  It will only take a few minutes of your time:

 1.  Text a copy of the linked flyer to all your friends and family with following message:

Senior Night Schedule – Nov 3rd

Band Families!

Senior week is going on right now! What a fun time to celebrate our senior band kids and their families!  This week’s football game is a home game vs. Pearce at 7:30PM.  During halftime, our seniors will be honored.  Senior kids, be sure to wear a silly hat that night.  Senior parents, please meet in the band hall at 6PM (unless new information has been given on this). Other band families, please pitch in to help so that the senior parents can celebrate with their kids.  Let’s all pitch in to help and to celebrate our Seniors!

First, don’t forget there is morning rehearsal, at 7AM on Thursday and Friday.

Newsletter – Oct 23rd

Hi Band Families!

Wow, what an amazing month this has been so far… football games, 2 marching contests, Varsity Revue, Homecoming, etc! What a great group of kids we have! They have worked so hard all month and it has shown in their contest results and their performances.  So proud of all of our Wildcat Band kids!  We also have an amazing group of volunteers that have put in lots of time and energy to pull it all off this month – thank you to each and every one of you! Band volunteers rock!!!  And finally, thank you to our directors for teaching our kids, being there early and late, and for encouraging our kids to be the best kid they can be. We are so thankful to have such an amazing team of directors!

We have almost made it through Band-tober y’all, just one last major event (UIL) and a couple of football games.  Let’s pull out all the stops and finish strong.  We have some great stuff happening this week and I don’t want you to miss out on any of it.  We also still need adult volunteers for both UIL on Wednesday, October 25th and for the Jesuit game on Friday, October 27th.  I will put sign up links below the weekly schedule for you guys to sign up and have fun with the band this week!
