Message from LHABC President

Hello Band Family,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Lake Highlands High School Wildcat Band! Parents/Guardians, if you have a student in band or color guard (they are collectively referred to as “The Band”), you are automatically part of the Lake Highlands Area Band Club. There are no membership dues and no official sign-up required. We are so happy to have you as a part of our band family. All we ask of you is to be supportive of the students and directors, cheer them on and when possible, help by volunteering. You can be involved as much as you choose. We want and need your help. In addition, it takes significant funding to produce our competition show, outfit, feed and provide many
other areas of support for our band. Please stay tuned for several upcoming fundraisers over the coming months, the first to be kicked-off during band camp. We hope you will spread the word to friends, family, and any potential corporate sponsors you may know.

We are so excited to welcome our new Head Director, Reagan Brumley, and new Assistant Director Claire Pittman. In addition, we are thrilled to welcome back Assistant Director Aaron Singleton, Percussion Director Andrew Smit and Color Guard Director Danny Martinez! As you can imagine, coming out of restrictive COVID protocols and having new staff means a lot of work must happen to get us up and fully functioning again. We want to thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work to do just that. Rest assured, it will all come together, and it is going to be a busy and exciting year for the band!

We are working to update the website (thank you Suzette Potvin) and every effort is made to keep the band calendar updated. If you ever have a question, be sure to reach out to a director or to me and we will get you the answer you are looking for. Be sure to check out the website http://www.LHABC.org to access the band calendar and other helpful information.

Band Registration – July 31:
Attendance at band registration is required for all new and returning band and color guard students. At least one parent/guardian should come with their child. Students will be able to officially register for band by filling out required forms, order necessary uniform pieces (marching shoes, summer uniform, wicking shirts/shorts worn under marching uniforms, water jugs, etc.), parents can sign up for volunteer opportunities, pay band fees, purchase spirit wear and more. Stay tuned for specific arrival times based upon grade level.

Volunteers:
As volunteer opportunities arise, email notifications and sign-ups will be sent out to the group. RISD requires all volunteers to submit to a background check. Please complete yours today via https://risd.voly.org/.

LHABC Board:
We have some open positions on our Board. It is important we fill these to fully function as a booster club and toprovide all the necessary support it takes to have a thriving band program.

Openings include: Treasurer, AssistantTreasurer, Meals Coordinator, Raffle Chairperson, Mattress Palooza Fundraiser Chairperson, FMJH Rep.

Freshman parents are welcome! If you are interested in being on the Board or learning more, please contact me.

Virtual Class Procedures

As students begin Virtual Private Lessons during Band classes, they have been asked to FIRST sign-in to their Band Class Zoom to notify their director that they’re attending their lesson.

Please make sure your student is staying current with assignments in Google Classroom. Advisory period is a great opportunity to catch up on work that is currently unfinished. Eligibility still applies to the 2020 Marching Band!

We have asked that students have video on whenever possible, and have space to sit correctly while playing their instrument.

We know that virtual school has its own unique challenges, so email your director if there are any issues!

This is an event that shows the district how awesome our kids and the LHABC truly are! With logistics being different (in the H-building instead of the L-building) we could really use additional assistance to make sure all kids have a great experience.Director/Judge Hospitality Area sign up:

Looking for a few good folks…

The LHABC Board is still looking for a few good folks who might be interested in getting more involved.  We are so blessed to have such a large group of kids in our band and amazing directors!  In order to accomplish all the amazing things this year, it takes a village of helpers.  We would love for you to consider being a part of our LHABC Board this year!  Here are the places that we still need to plug in a few great volunteers…

Publicity & Marketing – This role is responsible for promoting a positive image of the Band program to the public through local websites and news outlets throughout the year.

Ways & Means Chair – Puts together a committee that manages existing fundraisers not otherwise organized by a standing committee (Snap, Mattress Palooza, etc.) and finds new fundraising opportunities throughout the year.

Ways & Means Sub-chairs

  • Snap  – Is a Fall fundraiser.  Be in contact with the Snap rep and help them; incentives for the kids.
  • Mattress Palooza – Winter fundraiser.  Get in touch with mattress contact; get a date set on the calendar;  distribute flyers and yard signs; get the kids to volunteer for day of sale.
  • NorthPark Gold Raffle –  Flexible as to when do this – one year did Christmas and another year did it for Mother’s Day.
  • Restaurant Fundraisers (year-round) – Pick out different restaurants and set up date to have night that we advertise.  Set up places and dates on calendar and advertise on FB, signs etc.
  • Other fundraisers or New fundraisers – Kroger & Tom Thumb (year round) sign up happens on registration day, and they must be renewed every 12 months. Butter Braids (Color Guard) fundraiser – schedule time for rep to bring samples to a general meeting for folks to try.  Any new ideas…

Thanks so much for considering getting more involved if you are not already! Thanks to all of you who are already serving as well! Many hands make fun and light work…
