All-Region Etudes Released and Physicals

Hello, LH Band!
The list of All-Region/State etudes for each instrument has been released and can be seen here. If you own the etude book, go ahead and check out this list. If you don’t own the book and you have a private lesson teacher, they probably do and can scan and send to you. The band staff is working to copy the etudes and will let you know when you can come up to pick them up.In any case, we are available to help you if you want to get started. Just shoot us an email and we can set up a time to sit down together and help you start this music.
Also, PLEASE be sure you have gotten your physical and that you share the completed form to me before Summer Band. If you need the form, it is here
Thanks, everyone!

Summer Band, Physicals, Private Lessons Info from Mr. Brumley

Hello, LH Band and Parents!

This email contains several important updates and reminders about Summer Band Camp, as well as a couple of other items of business. Please know that I am always eager to answer questions if any of this requires clarification.

Summer Band:

Summer Band activities get into full swing soon! Please see these Important Dates. These rehearsals are crucial to leading the LH Band to an amazing marching season, so please give this document a careful look. These are the same dates that have been on the calendar since last semester, just with a few more details filled in. This is where we will learn a huge portion of our competitive marching show and do initial assignment of marching spots, so attendance is highly important!

Physicals Required for Band Students:

While this was also mentioned beginning last semester, we know you all have LOTS going on, so this is a reminder to get your physical and be sure and have your doctor’s office use the prescribed UIL form, found here.  Once complete, please scan and email the form to me at reagan.brumley@risd.org. If you are more comfortable doing so, you can also arrange a time to drop off the hard copy to me at the band hall.

Private Lessons:

Private lessons are happening now and are back in-person! There is no quicker way to improve on your instrument than by way of private lessons, so if you haven’t already enrolled or if you need help getting set up with a teacher, we are here to make that happen. Email Mr. Singleton at aaron.singleton@risd.org to get set up.

I’ll be back in touch soon with details about how you can be preparing for Summer Band and what materials you’ll need. In the meantime, reach out anytime with your questions; we are here to help!

Thanks,

Reagan Brumley- Fine Arts Coordinator/Director of Bands

UIL and South Coast Music Festival Results

Congratulations to our Band Students and Directors on outstanding performances at UIL and at the South Coast Music Festival in Corpus Christi!

Last week, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band performed three pieces each for the UIL competition.  Here are their results:

Wind Ensemble – All 1s in Concert and Sight-reading (“Sweepstakes”)

Symphonic Band– All 1s in Concert and Sight-reading (“Sweepstakes”)

Concert Band – All 2s in Concert and 2-1-2 in Sight-reading  (A strong performance in their first UIL competition in many years!)

The students who participated in the Corpus Christi trip also performed at the South Coast Music Festival.  All three bands received a “First Division-Superior” rating.

The talent runs deep in our band program.  With about 80 incoming freshmen, there is even greater growth and more accomplishments in the future of Lake Highlands bands!

UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest

Please come out to support our kids!  They have been working for MONTHS on this music and look forward to performing it for you!

Performances are in the Auditorium on the south west corner of the RHS campus.  Sight-Reading is located in the RHS Band Hall. You can follow the band from the Auditorium to the Band Hall after the performance to the parents area for viewing Site-Reading.
