Uptempo Fundraiser Update

THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our Uptempo Fundraiser so far!

We have raised over $31,000! We are getting SO CLOSE to our goal of $35,000. The event ends this Thursday, November 19.

Football Game Date Change

Our Football schedule has been adjusted!

The home game previously scheduled for Friday, November 27 (after Thanksgiving) is now on Wednesday, November 25 (before Thanksgiving) at 1:00pm.

IF any RISD teams have to quarantine and a game has to be rescheduled, then the game currently scheduled for Friday, December 4th would move to Monday, November 30th and the make-up game would occur on Saturday, December 5th. We will notify you if this ends up happening!

COVID updates

Please make sure you are continuing to follow social-distancing protocols at all times! We have had more issues with students not following the 6-foot rule, especially when we are transitioning from outdoors to indoors and vice-versa.

We are seeing an increase campus-wide in quarantining and positive cases. Let’s all do our part!!

REMINDERS:

Early Morning arrival of Marching Band students on a Rehearsal day: All materials NOT needed for rehearsal must be placed in lockers (Brass/Color Guard), on your assigned spot in the Band Hall (Woodwinds) or spaced out in the entryway between the Band Hall and Percussion Room (Percussion).

All students will be released from morning rehearsals at 8:15am and will return to the Band Hall. Only F2F students will be allowed back in the building and locker rooms (1 at a time – please move quickly)

From there, students will be dismissed to Athletic Locker Rooms (H-Building: Boys and Girls PE Locker Rooms). If you are using the Athletic Locker Rooms, masks must be worn at all times unless showering. You will need to move quickly through the Locker Room as you’re getting ready for the day – no congregating! If you are not using the Athletic Locker Rooms, you may not walk through any part of the building unless you are heading to the Hub or Auditorium after 8:30am.

Once you are dressed for school, ONLY 1st period Band students will be allowed to remain in the Band Hall and must be on their assigned spot with all materials needed for class. Non 1st-period Band students will need to follow the School Entry plan and remain in the Auditorium or Hub after dressing.


Band Lockers are assigned and will be used only for band materials.

Percussion: On days with morning rehearsal, Percussion will continue to rehearse 8:20-9:20 for 1st period. On Mondays and Wednesdays, virtual students will be let out early in order to get home for the rest of their virtual school day.

Weekly Schedule

In-person Marching Band rehearsals:

Tuesday/Thursday 7:00am-8:15am

Thursday Rehearsal locations:

ALL start in Parking Lot – we will move to the stadium at some point during rehearsal

Thursday: Football vs. Mesquite Poteet @ Wildcat-Ram Stadium, 7pm kickoff!

Call time: 6:00pm

Woodwinds – Band Hall

Brass – Auditorium

Percussion – Percussion Room

Color Guard – Orchestra Room

Required Materials and Uniform:

NEW Red LH Band shirt (you will receive on Tuesday AM)

Black shorts (school-appropriate length)

Short Socks (no tube socks)

NEW Red LH mask

Water Bottle (FULL of ice and water)

Flip Folder/Lyre

Instrument (in the case)

ALL students must leave campus at 4:10 and return BY 6:00pm in uniform. Students will not be provided food prior to the game.

We will march from the Band Hall down Church Rd to the stadium no later than 6:15pm.

Marching Band/F2F logistics

Early Morning arrival of Marching Band students on a Rehearsal day: All materials NOT needed for rehearsal must be placed in lockers (Brass/Color Guard), on your assigned spot in the Band Hall (Woodwinds) or spaced out in the entryway between the Band Hall and Percussion Room (Percussion).

All students will be released from morning rehearsals at 8:15am and will return to the Band Hall. Only F2F students will be allowed back in the building and locker rooms (1 at a time – please move quickly)

From there, students will be dismissed to Athletic Locker Rooms (H-Building: Boys and Girls PE Locker Rooms). If you are using the Athletic Locker Rooms, masks must be worn at all times unless showering. You will need to move quickly through the Locker Room as you’re getting ready for the day – no congregating! If you are not using the Athletic Locker Rooms, you may not walk through any part of the building unless you are heading to the Hub or Auditorium after 8:30am.

Once you are dressed for school, ONLY 1st period Band students will be allowed to remain in the Band Hall and must be on their assigned spot with all materials needed for class. Non 1st-period Band students will need to follow the School Entry plan and remain in the Auditorium or Hub after dressing.


Band Lockers will be assigned and used only for band materials. 3rd period band students will leave instruments upstairs in designated spaces on Tuesday AM because you won’t have lockers yet.

Percussion: On days with morning rehearsal, Percussion will continue to rehearse 8:20-9:20 for 1st period. On Mondays and Wednesdays, virtual students will be let out early in order to get home for the rest of their virtual school day.

Marching Band materials needed!

ALL Marching Band Students MUST submit the RISD LOCAL Fine Arts Travel Form along with an insurance card BEFORE Thursday’s game.

We will also have paper copies in the Band Hall on Monday for any student that needs one.

All Woodwind/Brass Marching Band members must have a flip folder and lyre in class on Monday. PLEASE bring scissors also if at all possible!

Lyre:We have lyres available for $10.

Students will need to have 15 pages for their flip folder. The product linked above will only come with 4-5. We will have extra pages available for sale – cost is 2 for $1 and we can only accept CASH (exact amount – no change provided).

Flutes: We have extra flute-specific flip folders – only $15 (no lyres required)

Tubas: Please bring your home tuba back to school Monday/Tuesday if at all possible!

Volunteers needed!

Hey parents! Want to get in free to the football games and help support the band? If you do, then you are in luck, we would love for you to volunteer to be a Band Chaperone for our games this year! Ticket Information for Home Varsity Football Games

Tickets will be sold on a week to week basis in the following order:

All ticket sales are general admission and must be purchased online. No tickets will be available at the gate

NEW: Stadiums will be held to 35% capacity, so please purchase tickets on Monday if you plan to attend!

• Monday/Tuesday

Family of athletes, band, cheer, drill team and bell guard may purchase tickets.

4 tickets will be available per participant listed above. A link will be sent out and the student’s ID # is required in order to purchase tickets. Students should know their student ID # or parents may request it from their school office.

• Wednesday

Students may purchase a ticket online. Student ID # required in order to purchase a ticket. The link will be sent out and posted on the RISD athletics webpage. https://web.risd.org/athletics/

• Thursday and/or Friday

If tickets are still available, the link will be posted on the RISD athletics webpage and the general public may purchase up to two tickets. https://web.risd.org/athletics/

There will be no passes accepted during the 2020 season.

All Fans Must follow the UIL COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Guidelines

Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in removal from the event

Wildcat Band T-Shirt Design Contest

Calling all Wildcat Band Students!! We need your help to design this year’s spirit shirt! What would you like to wear? What color? What logo? Do you have a creative idea? See the flyer below for more info! No need to have design software or something “professional,” We will take the winning ideas/sketches and work with the T-shirt company to finalize the product.

Band Registration Details

Band registration is THIS Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Band Hall, and we hope ALL of you can make it!

Please arrive at your allotted time slot (see table below). It usually takes about an hour to get in and out and arriving prepared will be super helpful.

BRING THE FOLLOWING TO REGISTRATION:

  1. Printed AND completed forms (attached in this email or at LHABC.org)
  2. Payment (cash, check, or credit card) for band fees, instrument fees, spirit wear, etc.
  3. TWO COPIES (front AND back) of your insurance card
  4. A minimum of TWO CASES of bottled water

HELPFUL REGISTRATION INFO:

    • Have your completed forms, payment, and your TWO insurance copies with you when you arrive!
    • RETURNING STUDENTS: do you need new white gloves? Make sure to tell our uniform moms Saturday!

    • Look for volunteers wearing badges- we are here to help and are happy to answer your questions!
    • Contact Mr. Chavis if you are unable to attend registration, and plan to attend makeup registration on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (prior to the parent preview!)

THINGS YOU’LL DO AT REGISTRATION:

    • Drop off your TWO cases of water donation (to keep our kids HYDRATED!)
    • Make sure your family’s Charms info is updated
    • Drop off completed forms in appropriate baskets
    • Pick up and fill out appropriate band fee sheet & get extended payment plan set up, if needed
    • Set up private lessons
    • Sign up to volunteer!
    • Pick up and/or order uniform gear (NEW BAND STUDENTS get certain items with their New Band Member fee, RETURNING BAND STUDENTS must pay to replenish certain items)
    • Purchase fun buttons and/or photo magnets with your band student’s photo on them!
    • Purchase our AWESOME Spirit Wear!
    • Stop by the tables for McKay Music, Lone Star Yard Art, etc.

NEW BAND STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE:

  • Black band logo undershirt and under shorts (required under marching uniform)
  • Summer Uniform (red logo shirt and black shorts)
  • Marching shoes
  • Gloves (2 pairs)
  • Monogrammed band accessory bag
  • Band logo red water jug

We are SO excited about the year ahead- our directors and kids have already put in so much time learning this year’s marching show and preparing for concert season. See you at Saturday’s registration!
