Dear Lake Highlands High School Supporter,

Lake Highlands High School has many fine traditions. One that dates back decades is Varsity Revue, a variety show featuring the talents and artistry of our remarkable students. Varsity Revue (VR) is also an important fundraiser for the Lake Highlands Area Band Club, the booster organization to all the bands in the Lake Highlands cluster. In addition to LHHS band, this cluster includes programs at Forest Meadow Junior High and Lake Highlands Junior High.

During Homecoming week, there will be one performance of Varsity Revue. Please mark your calendars now for Thursday, October 21, 2021.

The shows are well attended with as many as 400600 guests each performance. Every guest, upon entering the show, will be given a free printed program. This program highlights personal ads, messages Shout Out’s and advertisements from our community and local businesses. Today we are reaching out to you, offering the opportunity to send your message, show your support, and promote your business by placing an ad in this year’s VR program.

If you are interested in placing an ad, please reply to me via email and fill out the attached order form VR 2021 Ad Form  or go to www.LHABC.org / Fundraisers to download forms. Don’t delay, as the deadline for collection of forms and payment is Friday, October 1st, 2021.

The Lake Highlands Band program appreciates your support! We hope to see you at VR as well as in the printed program!

If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Go, Band!

Up Tempo Fundraiser Coming Soon!!!

Hello, all!

Please see the attached document detailing the band’s biggest fundraiser of the year, UpTempo. Though RISD is incredibly supportive of fine arts, no school district is able to provide for all of the financial needs of a competitive 6A band program. For this reason, every family’s participation in this fundraiser is crucial to being able to provide the experiences these outstanding band students deserve. Please take just a moment to read the attached information to see what is involved, then take some time over the next few days to acquire the contact information necessary to do the event.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are so appreciative of everything you ALL do to facilitate the incredible program that is the Lake Highlands Band for these wonderful students!

Winter Marching Band Performance!

After much hard work, we have now gotten approval to hold an in-person event prior to our Winter Break!

The LHHS Wildcat Band will be hosting a Winter Marching Band Performance on Thursday, 12/3 at 6:30pm!

The Marching Band will be performing our 2020 show along with many other songs from our Fall season.

We are excited to provide this in-person performance opportunity for our fans! Our Band students have worked hard through all of the challenges involved with the Fall semester and we are so proud of their progress!

Similar to Football Games, all safety protocols remain in place:

· Masks are required

· All fans must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering

· Every other row will remain empty. Please do not sit on rows that are marked with Caution tape

· Per UIL rules, we must maintain no more than 50% Stadium Capacity

· You may ONLY sit with members of your household

Wristbands will be required and must be checked upon entry. Each Marching Band student will be given 4 wristbands to distribute to friends and family as needed.

Please note: this performance will only involve members of our Marching Band and this will take the place of our traditional Winter Concert event in December. We are also planning a virtual concert event for early in the Spring semester (late January/early February) that will involve ALL LHHS Band students regardless of their learning model.

We hope you will join us on Thursday, December 3rd at 6:30pm!

PLAYOFFS!

Richardson ISD IS allowing Marching Bands to travel to Playoff Football games! We need ALL Marching Band families to fill in a new Opt-In form HERE: https://forms.gle/stviHxY7u2WPm7RL6

There are two options for transportation:

Students will either ride an RISD bus with the band OR can be driven by a parent.

NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO DRIVE THEMSELVES!

Marching rehearsals will occur on Thursday-Friday, December 10-11, 7:30AM to 8:15AM. Depending on what we perform at the game, a similar schedule will probably apply the following week if we advance.

All-Region Auditions

All students who are auditioning for the TMEA All-Region process will receive login information to access Music First, a web-based recording program.

The window for students to record the Region cuts is 10am on Saturday, 12/5 until 11:59pm on Wednesday, 12/9. You can record any combination of etudes in a sitting and revisit recordings after finishing them.

The biggest challenge in this process is if a student attempts to re-record an Etude, the previous recording will automatically be deleted! You may not record multiple takes of the same Etude and go through them to find the best one. Your LAST take will always be the recording stored. You can attempt recording as few or as many times as you want, but all recordings must be in BEFORE 11:59pm on Wednesday.

Each student should have now paid LHABC their $16 entry fee.

Our Football schedule has been adjusted!

The home game previously scheduled for Friday, November 27 (after Thanksgiving) is now on Wednesday, November 25 (before Thanksgiving).

Because of this, we need to know how many Band students will be able to attend the game.

If the date change means you will be absent from the game, it WILL be excused but please fill out this Google Form by Monday, 10/26: https://forms.gle/ivKEzhSEZkvwiRkq5

IF any RISD teams have to quarantine and a game has to be rescheduled, then the home game currently scheduled for Friday, December 4th would move to Monday, November 30th and the make-up game would occur on Saturday, December 5th. We will notify you if this ends up happening!

Homecoming Mums

If you placed an order for Mums/Armbands through the LHHS Band, they must be picked up Monday starting at 3:30pm outside the H-building (former Freshman Center) entrance!

Please help us spread the word to anyone else who ordered!

Uptempo Fundraising Kickoff – Emails due TOMORROW!

The Lake Highlands Area Band Club is excited to soon be kicking off our Up Tempo Fundraising campaign! This is a campaign that allows our students to receive donations from their family and friends. To assist our fundraising efforts, we are asking you to help your band/color guard student obtain permission for and gather 20 email addresses of his/her closest supporters.

Family and friends will then receive an email directing them to the student’s personal web page providing an easy way for them to donate.

It is important for ALL LHHS Band students to participate in our efforts. We actively fundraise in order to keep Band fees low for our families.

Up-Tempo Email Campaign Facts:

1. Safe and Protected – Up Tempo utilizes a safe and secure online donation system. All data is private and never redistributed. Personal information displayed is less detailed than what is given on a team online roster or your school’s annual yearbook, with no personal information other than name and optional picture/selfie. Your contacts are strictly private and protected, never sold or shared and will be deleted after the campaign.

2. Online donation system – Up Tempo is basically an online donation platform inviting potential donors via email and social media to visit the web page where they can easily donate and support your program. All supporters will receive an emailed receipt for their tax-deductible gift. Four reminder emails will be sent throughout the campaign with the option to unsubscribe.

We are asking you to assist your student by obtaining permission for and gathering 20 emails and phone numbers of people closest to him/her that may be potential donors. The phone numbers are in addition to the emails-they do not replace them.

You will need to bring these by Monday, October 19th and we will help set up his/her profile and host our “Live Event” on Wednesday, October 21st at 2:20 for the students to reach out to the people on their list.

Chamber Music Festival entry fees DUE!

If you did not turn these in prior to the Winter Break, please turn them in BY Friday, January 10!Each entry costs $5 – this means if a student is playing both a solo and an ensemble, the TOTAL entry fee for them is $10. Fees can be paid by cash/check and turned into the safe with “CMF 2020 Entry Fee – Student Name” listed on the envelope.

Woodwind/Brass students: If you are playing a solo, there is also a $40 accompanist fee. This fee covers 2 rehearsals and a performance with a professional pianist that we hire for you. ALL solos must be performed with an accompanist. We organize this for you to not only make it convenient but also save money! $40 is a great deal for this service! Please turn the accompanist fee into the safe with “CMF 2020 Accompanist Fee – Student Name” listed on the envelope. Do not pay your accompanist directly!

Google Classroom Assignments are DUE this week. Please double-check your due dates online – be prepared!
