Good afternoon Wildcat Band!
Please see below for some important updates from us. There are still many unknowns, but as you submit your RISD surveys about Virtual vs. Face to Face school we wanted you to have as much confirmed information as we could.
Virtual Summer Band – next week!
A document will be sent separately with Zoom links, instructions and a breakdown of the schedule. 4:30-6:00 pm, Monday-Thursday!
Enrollment: Virtual vs. Face to Face
What does each option look like?
- As of right now, Virtual instruction will be focused on primarily individual musicianship as opposed to simulating a “band” via Zoom.
- Face to Face instruction will be structured to serve our bands based on placement auditions from the end of the spring semester. Depending on numbers, we will split up classes into appropriately distanced/sized groups between the HS directors.
What can virtual students participate in?
- ALL students will have the opportunity to participate in Marching Band, regardless of if they’re Face to Face or Virtual.
- If a Virtual student is in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion or Color Guard (1st period band classes), they CAN attend 1st period band class in person everyday.
Marching season – what will this look like?
Before-school rehearsals
Tentatively 2 days a week, 7:00-8:15 am
Football games
Travel guidelines for RISD are currently being discussed. Once those are determined, we will know more about our FB (Football) game schedule and the logistics involved.
We are working on a format that allows us to learn a distanced field show to perform at Football games and will also perform in the stands while maintaining social distancing
Marching Contests
RISD Marching Bands will not be attending marching contests this semester.
Safety Precautions
Students will be expected to wear masks at all times while indoors and any time they are not actively participating in physical activity. More details will be sent out prior to in-person rehearsals.
Social distancing
Students will be expected to follow ALL protocols defined by the program before returning to school/practice in person.
Daily Screener
There will be a daily screening process for everyone when they come to campus. This will involve answering whether you have been in close proximity to anyone with COVID symptoms, if you have been exhibiting any symptoms and a temperature check.
Band Fees
We are actively working to lower fees based on what marching season will look like, but until more details are decided we do not have a specific number set.
We miss you very much and look forward to virtually seeing you on Monday afternoon!!
