UIL Physical Forms due Sept 8

REQUIRED Physicals – forms are attached (keep scrolling).

*** IMPORTANT:  Due to COVID-19, requirements for physicals this year are slightly different than last year.  Please read the information below carefully for what is needed from each student based on their status during the 2019-20 school year.

Returning students that were enrolled in Band/Color Guard at LHHS during the 2019-20 school year and any incoming freshman who had a physical on file at their JH campus last year need to submit ONLY the Medical History side of the form (page 1 of the UIL form) prior to September 8th.   You do not need to have a physical completed.

SUBMIT YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY FORM here: https://forms.gle/2fvjCzhGoqhpSYr17

Incoming freshmen and NEW members that were not enrolled in Band/Color guard at LHHS during the 2019-20 school year must submit a completed physical (both sides of the UIL form attached) UNLESS they had a physical on file at their JH campus that was completed between May 2019 and now.

Students that have not turned in a completed physical form signed by a physician prior to the start of our season (they must have been cleared for participation by the physician as well) will not be able to participate in any band/guard activities until it is completed (passed) and turned in.

Physicals may be completed in a number of different ways – it’s totally up to each family!  Here are the options you have for completing your son/daughter’s physical…

1.      Schedule an appointment with your family physician – cost determined by your insurance/physician.

2.      Schedule an appointment at an urgent care clinic – cost determined by your insurance/physician.

§  CareNow is currently offering discounted $20 physicals!

If getting a physical, you will need to take a copy of the attached UIL Medical History and Pre-participation Physical Examination forms (2 pages – link is below & attached to this email) with them to be completed by the physician at their physical examination.

LHHS Band Updates 8/6/2020

Good afternoon Wildcat Band!

Please see below for some important updates from us.  There are still many unknowns, but as you submit your RISD surveys about Virtual vs. Face to Face school we wanted you to have as much confirmed information as we could.

Virtual Summer Band – next week!

A document will be sent separately with Zoom links, instructions and a breakdown of the schedule. 4:30-6:00 pm, Monday-Thursday!

Enrollment: Virtual vs. Face to Face

What does each option look like?

  • As of right now, Virtual instruction will be focused on primarily individual musicianship as opposed to simulating a “band” via Zoom.
  • Face to Face instruction will be structured to serve our bands based on placement auditions from the end of the spring semester.  Depending on numbers, we will split up classes into appropriately distanced/sized groups between the HS directors.

What can virtual students participate in?

  • ALL students will have the opportunity to participate in Marching Band, regardless of if they’re Face to Face or Virtual.
  • If a Virtual student is in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion or Color Guard (1st period band classes), they CAN attend 1st period band class in person everyday.

Marching season – what will this look like?

Before-school rehearsals

Tentatively 2 days a week, 7:00-8:15 am

Football games

Travel guidelines for RISD are currently being discussed.  Once those are determined, we will know more about our FB (Football) game schedule and the logistics involved.

We are working on a format that allows us to learn a distanced field show to perform at Football games and will also perform in the stands while maintaining social distancing

Marching Contests

RISD Marching Bands will not be attending marching contests this semester.

Safety Precautions

Students will be expected to wear masks at all times while indoors and any time they are not actively participating in physical activity.  More details will be sent out prior to in-person rehearsals.

Social distancing

Students will be expected to follow ALL protocols defined by the program before returning to school/practice in person.

Daily Screener

There will be a daily screening process for everyone when they come to campus.  This will involve answering whether you have been in close proximity to anyone with COVID symptoms, if you have been exhibiting any symptoms and a temperature check.

Band Fees

We are actively working to lower fees based on what marching season will look like, but until more details are decided we do not have a specific number set.

We miss you very much and look forward to virtually seeing you on Monday afternoon!!

LHHS Virtual Band Camp 2020

Hello Wildcat Band!

We are currently making preparations for a VIRTUAL summer band camp for the Lake Highlands HS Band!

This camp is completely optional and is provided as a way for students to reconnect with their friends and band directors before school starts.

Band Directors from Forest Meadow JH and Lake Highlands JH will be helping us teach the camp along with the LHHS Band Staff… so this promises to be a great way for our new 9th graders to easily connect with their new “second home” in the LH Wildcat Band!

Activities include:

  • Section time in zoom breakout rooms to meet and hang out with the other students in your section
  • Section master classes on concert instruments to help you start back up on your personal musical development
  • Informational session with Mr. Chavis to discuss back-to-school plans (covering both what in-person and online classes may look like)

Monday through Thursday

August 10 – August 13

4:30-6:00 pm on Zoom

No registration required, more detailed information will be sent through Charms by the end of the week!  Let me know if you have any questions or requests for fun virtual activities that we could consider!
