Weekly Schedule

REMINDERS:Rehearsals begin at 6:45 am each morning! We have had many students dropped off right at 6:45 am. If a student needs help finding a ride, they are encouraged to check with their section leaders first.

ALL students must have their water bottle at every rehearsal. This is a matter of safety for all involved! Any student who doesn’t have water will be sent off of the field to take care of it before they are allowed to join our rehearsal.

Students will be asked to call/text their rides when we are getting close to LHHS. This should be between 10:30 and 11 pm

SNAP Raise Update!

Our goal is for EVERY student to participate in the Snapraise Fundraiser! We are currently over 70% of students involved If you missed the day we set them up at Band Camp, the details are below:

Makeup Pictures – Thursday!

From Laura Hornung regarding makeup Pictures:

Photo makeup session for those who missed their individual band photos last week on Wednesday August 7 is scheduled for NEXT Thursday (August 22) after school (and before the Fall Sports Rally).

I will also be taking more orders for Picture Buttons/Magnets during that time. The cost per each is $5–cash or checks only (I won’t have the ability to use a credit card machine).

If your student was unable to make the photo sessions on Wednesday, now is the chance to have their photo taken in their marching uniform!

SENIORS who missed REALLY need to attend so that we can include your photo on the Band Poster.

If you want sibling photos for a Button/Magnet, I will take photos and orders for those as well. (Just a note–ONLY siblings. I won’t have time to do BFF or Sweetheart photos.)

Cones will be setup outlining the fire lane driveway leading up to the Band ramp. Starting Friday, you may ENTER the lot off of Church Rd to drop-off, but then please EXIT the lot off of White Rock Trail (H-Building/Freshman Center).

This is a GREAT time to get important information about the Fall semester, ask questions and meet other parents! We put it at this time to coordinate with when you would be picking your child up/seeing them perform at the Parent Preview right after! This is also when Make-up Registration will occur for anyone who did not attend yesterday’s Band Registration.

Immediately after the Parent Meeting, the band will perform some of what we have been working on the last few weeks! We should be done around 12:00 pm and the Kona Ice truck will be here!

Varsity Revue – October 17/19

One of the band’s main fundraisers and a long-standing tradition in the Lake Highlands community is happening October 17 and 19 during Homecoming week.Varsity Revue is a school-wide talent show that the LH band hosts and promotes.

Students: We will be looking for talented acts to perform and will also need Emcees to host the event. If you are interested, please see Mr. Singleton for more details! If you know someone who enjoys performing and attends LHHS, let them know!

Band Registration Details

Band registration is THIS Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Band Hall, and we hope ALL of you can make it!

Please arrive at your allotted time slot (see table below). It usually takes about an hour to get in and out and arriving prepared will be super helpful.

10 to 11 a.m. A through F
11 a.m. to noon G through K
Noon to 1 p.m. L through P
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Q through Z


  1. Printed AND completed forms (attached in this email or at
  2. Payment (cash, check, or credit card) for band fees, instrument fees, spirit wear, etc.
  3. TWO COPIES (front AND back) of your insurance card
  4. A minimum of TWO CASES of bottled water


    • Have your completed forms, payment, and your TWO insurance copies with you when you arrive!
    • RETURNING STUDENTS: do you need new white gloves? Make sure to tell our uniform moms Saturday!
    • Use this link to do your volunteer background check NOW so you don’t have to do it on Saturday:
    • Look for volunteers wearing badges- we are here to help and are happy to answer your questions!
    • Contact Mr. Chavis if you are unable to attend registration, and plan to attend makeup registration on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (prior to the parent preview!)


    • Drop off your TWO cases of water donation (to keep our kids HYDRATED!)
    • Make sure your family’s Charms info is updated
    • Drop off completed forms in appropriate baskets
    • Pick up and fill out appropriate band fee sheet & get extended payment plan set up, if needed
    • Set up private lessons
    • Sign up to volunteer!
    • Pick up and/or order uniform gear (NEW BAND STUDENTS get certain items with their New Band Member fee, RETURNING BAND STUDENTS must pay to replenish certain items)
    • Purchase fun buttons and/or photo magnets with your band student’s photo on them!
    • Purchase our AWESOME Spirit Wear!
    • Stop by the tables for McKay Music, Lone Star Yard Art, etc.

Exciting news!

RISD has provided our band with licenses to use the cutting-edge technology of Ultimate Drill Book. What this means for us is that ALL students in the marching band will be learning drill for the show using their cell phone! Right now, all you need to do is download the FREE Ultimate Drill Book app!!!It can be found by searching for “UDB app” in both the Apple and Android App stores.

Volunteer opportunity – Music Therapy!

Did you see Valerie McNamara on the news?? Check it out: Band members now have the opportunity to provide service to patients at Baylor Scott and White through her efforts. See Valerie for details if you are interested – We would love to see our band make a huge impact in this way!!

Remind groups for ALL parents and students!

To receive urgent alerts and important reminders from Band Directors, we need all parents and students to join the correct group for your grade level.

Students and parents can join by texting the class code to the phone number 81010 (for US residents only). 81010 is the same for everyone, but the class code (like @lhband2020) is unique to each class. Students and parents don’t need smartphones, just any phone that can receive text messages. If you used Remind last year make sure you update your version through the App Store.

Mid-week report – great things happening at LHHS

What a great week so far!

We are getting SO much done in Band Camp so far!! Kids are working hard and we begin putting the show on the field TOMORROW!As teachers return to campus and events begin, please make sure you follow instructions regarding parking.

We have had many band students reported for parking in the circle lot. Please continue parking in the stadium lot and walking down Church Rd. The space between the H Building and our Parking lot is an active Construction Zone and should NOT be walked through!

Front Circle Drive parking spots are for visitors of the campus, those who are coming in to register and pick-up schedules for the next week.

After our morning rehearsal is complete, you may move your car to the Band lot.

Keep drinking water, eating a good breakfast and protecting yourself from the sun!
