LHABC Update, 1/29/19

Hi, Band Families!

I hope all of you had a chance to catch the LHHS Theater production of Cinderella last week- not only did our AMAZING pit orchestra (led by Mr. Rees!) sound like professionals, but many of our band students were part of the cast and crew. Nice job, ladies and gents! It was a great production!

Thanks to all of you who showed up for the Spring Trip meeting- please make sure you have turned in your first payment OR have communicated with the directors regarding your payment plans! We want everyone who is eligible to attend to be able to do so!

We want to make sure that everyone knows to please email, text or call us with any questions you may have. There have been several instances of questions being posted to the band’s Facebook page, but since that is not a regularly monitored page we don’t always see things in a timely fashion. We would hate for anyone’s questions to slip through the cracks!

We have some important events in the coming days and weeks, so please make sure your calendars are marked!

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • TOMORROW, 1/30: Head to GRUB Burger anytime between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., and tell the cashier you’re there to support the band. We get 20% back, and the restaurant fundraisers really add up (plus, you have to eat anyway, right?)!
  • FRIDAY, 2/1: Spring Pep Rally! Band Students need to wear their RED ADIDAS BAND SHIRT and JEANS.
  • FRIDAY, 2/1: LHJH Play-a-thon fundraiser from 4:30-8:30; we are still in need of volunteers for this, so please let me know if you can help!
  • SATURDAY, 2/2: MATTRESS PALOOZA IS HERE!!! 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a HUGE fundraiser for one day’s work, and we would love to see everyone spread the word! If you haven’t yet joined the Facebook page for this, please do so, and then share it far and wide!
  • THURSDAY, 2/7: FMJH Play-a-thon from 4:30 to 7; we are still in need of volunteers for this, so please let me know if you can help!
  • FRIDAY, 2/15: Second payment is due for the Spring Trip!
  • SATURDAY, 2/23: Chamber Music Festival! Details to come!
  • FRIDAY, 3/22: Final payment is due for the Spring Trip
  • MONDAY, 4/22: Harlem Wizards fundraiser! Details to come!
  • FRIDAY, 4/26- MONDAY 4/29: Spring Trip to Corpus!

Band Weekly Update

Good afternoon everyone,

If you have not had a chance, the FINAL LH performance of Cinderella is today at 2pm!  Tickets can be purchased on the LHHS Theater website: www.lhhstheater.org. Our kids are doing an incredible job!

Please check the band calendar for sectional dates/times for the upcoming week – the dates/times are always up to date.

Thank you for continuing to spread the word about our Mattress fundraiser THIS Saturday 10am-5pm in the LH Band Hall!

The Spring Sports Pep Rally is currently scheduled for this Friday at 9am!  Please find your Red Adidas LH Band shirt and jeans to wear Friday morning.  If you already turned in your marching instrument repair, plan to use your concert instrument.  Call time is 8:40am in the Band Hall!  If you aren’t wearing the band shirt, you will not be allowed to perform.  If there are any concerns or conflicts, please communicate with your Band Director this week.

We are still looking for volunteers on some instruments for the junior high’s Play-a-thons!

Sign up sheets are on the board in the band hall – LHJH is this Friday and FMJH is next Thursday.

Congratulations to our awesome Region Band students who performed in wonderful concerts last night in Mesquite – we are very proud of you!

Musical Week

Good evening Wildcat Band families, We hope everyone has had a great weekend! Thank you to everyone for your attendance at last week’s Spring Trip meeting. If we have not received the permission form and first payment, please make sure you have contacted a director.

Our Mattress Fundraiser is coming soon – Saturday, February 2nd 10am-5pm!

Our musical students have been working SO hard preparing Cinderella. All performances are listed on the band calendar – we hope to see you at a show!

Congratulations to our All-Region qualifiers! They will be rehearsing Thursday night and Friday during the day in Mesquite. All concerts are on Friday night in Mesquite – please check the e-mail sent on Friday with details about the trip!

There are NO Wind Ensemble sectionals this week due to musical. All other band’s sectionals are posted on the band calendar – please double check! Due to having Monday off, some are different this week.

Musical students: call time for Children’s shows Tuesday-Wednesday is 9am!

Chamber Music Festival entries were due online last Friday. Students entered their solos and ensembles in classes throughout last week. If you have not already, please make sure fees are turned in – entries are $5 per event, payable to LHABC. Example: If a student is playing a solo and an ensemble, their total fee is $10. MOST students are doing at least a solo and a large ensemble (made up of students within their band class).

Sectionals start this week!

Good afternoon!

All sectional rehearsals for our concert bands are now posted on the Google Calendar. Please double check the day/time for your sectional this week. The schedule was created by the band directors after taking information regarding potential conflicts from students in each band. ALL students have sectionals each week (except for 3rd period band students who have Mr. Rees as their director).

WE = Wind Ensemble (1st period w/Mr. Chavis)

SB = Symphonic Band (2nd period w/Mr. Rees)

CB = Concert Band (3rd period w/Mr. Singleton)

In addition, we have our Musical rehearsing each day this week, Winterguards and our Spring Trip parent meeting on Tuesday night! If you have any questions about the schedule, please e-mail your student’s director.

LHABC Update, 1/11/19

Happy New Year, Band Families!

We hope all of you enjoyed a restful break and a joyful holiday! Here are a few important details as we head into the spring semester:

  • SPRING TRIP FORMS and DEPOSITS are due at the mandatory meeting we will have on Tuesday, 1/15 at 7 pm. The info and form were sent in an earlier email, but please overlook the “DRAFT” across the pages; this is intended to indicate that the itinerary is a draft, but this is the actual document and form.
  • Did we mention the MANDATORY SPRING TRIP MEETING on TUESDAY 1/15 at 7 pm? (please make plans for at least one parent or guardian to attend)
  • Tuesday 1/15 at 6 pm: LHABC Board Meeting (Orchestra Room)
  • 1/23, 1/26, 1/27: Musical performances- don’t miss this fun production!
  • 2/2 from 10 am to 5 pm: MATTRESS PALOOZA FUNDRAISER
  • 4/22: Harlem Wizards basketball fundraiser- we want the whole community to join us for this, so please tell your friends!

Lastly, in case it’s not already on your calendar, there’s a MANDATORY SPRING TRIP MEETING on Tuesday, 1/15 at 7 pm in the band hall 😉
