Happy October, Band Families!
We have a busy weekend ahead, which is pretty typical for October (you might hear the older band families using the term “Bandtober”), but your kids are SO well-equipped for everything they have on their schedules right now! That’s one of the many great things about band- your kids will learn time management skills, resilience, and how to work well with a team (these kids even help tutor each other!).
Here’s what’s coming up:
- Tomorrow (10/12) is Junior High Night at the LH football game! Our band students from FMJH and LHJH will be here to have some fun with the high school band, and we will have parent volunteers from those schools helping serve meals and chaperone. Please welcome them and help them learn the ropes! Make sure to have your kids pack/wear cold weather layers for under their marching uniforms! Come early to see the band march the the show (with new parts added!) before the game! They will take the field at 7:05, so come cheer them on!
- Saturday (10/13) we will compete in the Don Hanna Memorial Marching Contest, rain or shine (click here for details). The band will be fed lunch at LHHS @11:30 and dinner at C.H. Collins Stadium around 6.
- LeaAnne Pillers needs to borrow six large (110 qt.) ice chests for the Don Hanna contest to transport food. Please email her if you can loan one: leaanne.pillers@risd.org
- Wednesday (10/17) is UIL Region at Mesquite Memorial Stadium (details on attachment). Students will be dismissed from school early for this. Please join us at Mesquite Memorial to cheer them on if you are available!
SOS!! Our band is in need of a new chest freezer (21 cu.ft. or larger) AND a new fridge! Our freezer is much too small for our growing band, and our fridge is on it’s last legs. We would love to avoid purchasing new ones, so our hope is to put out the word to all of you to see if we can figure out a way to get gently used ones donated. Please contact Sherwin or me (contact info in the closing) if you have any ideas for replacing these.
We want YOU to be an LHABC Volunteer! Email me at a_daryani@att.net to add your name to our list. Background checks are required and can be done HERE: http://www.risd.org/group/community/VolunteerOpportunities.html
We so appreciate all of our band families who jump in and help with everything from uniforms, to chaperoning, to pit-popping (definitely a word), so THANK YOU!!! And thank you to our AMAZING board members who spend countless hours keeping it all running.
